NEW! Chromebook Damage/Loss Protection Program

Westfall Local School District
Chromebook Damage/Loss Program
2024-2025 School Year
colorful computer screenLike textbooks, team uniforms and other school property loaned to your student, there is a responsibility to take appropriate care of these valuable resources. The Chromebook is no different, but it does represent an increased cost to the district and liability to students and parents. We know that loss and accidents will happen. District policies, regulations, and practices

require that a fee be levied to cover the repair or replacement cost of district property. With computing devices like Chromebooks, the cost of loss or damage can be significant.

The district has developed a Chromebook Damage/Loss Program to help families reduce the financial risk if their Chromebooks are accidentally damaged, stolen, vandalized, or lost.

Participation in this program is completely voluntary.

COVERAGE AND BENEFIT—This program covers the Chromebook loaned to the student against all accidental damage, theft,  vandalism, or loss for one (1) school year. This program does NOT cover damage or loss of the power cord. This program does NOT cover intentional misuse, abuse, or neglect by any household members. If the student did not exercise proper care and/or take appropriate precautions, as described in the student/parent handbook, and this behavior resulted in damage to or loss of the Equipment, the cost of the repair or replacement will be the responsibility of the student/parent.

If the Chromebook is accidentally damaged or vandalized, it will be repaired at no cost, not to exceed two repairs.

Students who withdraw or leave the Westfall Local School District and do not return the student-issued Chromebook will be subject to a fine and possibly reported to local law enforcement as having possession of a stolen device.

THEFT—If the Chromebook is stolen, the Westfall Local School District will replace it only after a police report is submitted and only for families purchasing the Damage/Loss Protection Program. Fraudulent theft reporting will be turned over to the police for investigation. A student making a false report will also be subject to disciplinary action.

LOSS—If the Chromebook is lost, the district will reduce the replacement cost to $125 for the first loss if the Damage/Loss  Protection Program has been purchased. Upon payment, the student will be issued a replacement Chromebook. However, the parent will not be eligible to enroll in this program for a second time in the same school year and will be fully responsible for replacement or repair costs associated with this second Chromebook.

In the event that the lost or stolen Chromebook is recovered in working condition, the deductible will be refunded after the lost Chromebook is returned.

Loaner Chromebooks—Each school will have loaner Chromebooks. Students who have purchased the insurance plan will be provided a loaner Chromebook until their Chromebook has been repaired. Students who have not purchased insurance will receive a loaner Chromebook only after their repair fine has been paid in full. Loaner Chromebooks will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis.

Important Deadline—Chromebook insurance must be paid in full by September 11, 2024, to be in effect for any damages that occur prior to that date. Insurance may be purchased after this date; however, damages will only be covered from the date of purchase forward.

PLEASE NOTE—If you choose not to enroll in the Chromebook Damage/Loss Program, you will be responsible for the full cost of repair due to damage or replacement of the Chromebook.

The standard payment to enroll in the Chromebook Damage/Loss Program is $25. The cost for students on free or reduced lunch is $10.
