Let's celebrate Right to Read Week with a Read-A-Thon starting Friday, March 15!
Read-a-thons are a fun way to get your child excited about reading! It’s like a walk-a-thon, but we record minutes read instead of miles. It’s a great way to encourage our students in their love of reading.
Activate your reader's account at https://www.read-a-thon.com/readers/r/323739343331/1, where families can record and track progress.
Together, we can foster strong reading habits and a love for learning that will last a lifetime!
We're thrilled to announce that Jordan Sonnenblick, the renowned author of After Ever After, Drums, Girls, and Dangerous Pie, and The Secret Sheriff of Sixth Grade, will visit Westfall on March 14 to share his books and experiences with special presentations for students in grades 5-8 and 9-12!
Our first-graders enjoyed a special visit from Hopewell Culture National Historical Park, where they interacted with tools used by Native American tribes, compared how life was different then vs. now, and learned about identifying animals in the wild by their fur patterns, paw prints, and bird calls. They did a great job recognizing many different species native to Ohio!
Our second-graders visited the Columbus Antheneum yesterday and enjoyed performances of The Three Little Pigs, Little Red Riding Hood, and more. They then visited the Old Barn at Dry Run Farms for lunch and learned how the Barnes family transported the historic 174-year-old venue barn to its current home. The students loved seeing the beautiful craftsmanship and discovering the importance of preservation.
Mrs. Woods' students visited Mr. Sheets's office this afternoon to show off the illustrations they created for his book "A Frog is a Frog." He was delighted to see their creativity and signed each student's book as a keepsake.
Our first-graders set up booths to offer goods and services for today's Economic Fair. What amazing entrepreneurs we have at Westfall Elementary!
Our Mustang Buddies had a wonderful time creating a heart mural and playing BINGO with their fellow buddies! Mustang Buddies is our after-school program that meets monthly at Westfall Elementary School and aims to create a positive and welcoming environment for preschool through 2nd-grade students.
The program pairs them with mentors from grades 3-5, providing a unique opportunity to interact, learn, and grow together. The program aims to build self-confidence, improve social skills, and create a sense of belonging within the school community by developing positive relationships between our students.
Mustang Buddies is a fantastic way to inspire young minds and help them grow into future leaders! We look forward to this program's growth and positive impact on our students.
WES is participating in Right to Read Week from March 18-22. We are doing spirit days as well as a reading challenge per grade level, where students can track the minutes that they read each day. Keep an eye out for Read-a-thon sheets coming home soon too. We hope you'll join us!

We had an incredible visit and book signing from author and cartoonist, Wes Molebash, who shared his inspiration and creative process with our students! Don't miss out on his masterpiece, "Travis Daventhorpe For the Win" Book One – a must-read for all ages, available now!
Mrs. Woods' second-grade class invited Superintendent Mr. Sheets to be a guest reader today with a book he wrote himself! Inspired by the stories he tells his granddaughter, he wrote "A Frog is a Frog" and gave copies to each of her students, allowing them the opportunity to be an illustrator!
"A Frog is a Frog," tells the story of a frog who desperately wants to be a bird, but with some encouragement from his fellow frog friend, he realizes that he is special just as he is and to be the best "you" that you can be!
